We are still fascinated by cork. This natural material is second to none as the material for fly rod grips.
We don't use pre-shaped sticks. We source cork rings of best quality from Portugal, hand-sort them, glue them together and turn them to shape on the shaft.
We offer two types of custom reel seats--- slide band downlock with cork spacer, and screw uplock with walnut spacer.
Both types were meticulously machined by Joel Lemke, who for years ran the Struble reel seat shop and then a shop of his own near Oregon’s North Umpqua River.
The all-important snake guides and tip-tops are made by Mike McCoy of Snake Brands.
Classic and functional. The standard stripping guide we choose is Pacific Bay CLXBG in titanium grey color. We do have a limited number of vintage carboloy guides made by Mildrum and Perfection, and they can be installed for additional cost.
Sorry, no agate options!
Our main thread is also one of a kind: a vintage Gudebrod brand dark chestnut nylon from Ferdinand Claudio’s estate.
Ferd was a celebrated small-scale rodmaker in the 1970s, and served as president of Golden Gate Angling and Casting Club. Using that thread until it runs out is something of a tribute to, and another connection with, the US West Coast’s fly fishing culture.
